Visit Glenelg

Return

This is a pretty, remote village accessed by either the Kylerhea-Glenelg ferry  or the road from Glenshiel by Mam Ratagan. Stop at the car park on the Mam to view the Five Sisters of Kintail, mountains in a league of their own. In Glenelg visit the eighteenth century barracks, remnants from the time of General Wade. They are essentially intact. There is an excellent shop and restaurant on the way into the village and a hotel in the village itself. Visit Arnisdale, another pretty village. Walk along the shoreline of the Sound of Sleat opposite village houses. The village itself has a shop and post office. Make a round trip of your visit, out by road and back by ferry. The road to Broadford passes the village of Kylerhea which is worth a photographic session. The trip back passes over the 'Khyber', well named; at the top you will see fine views of Glenelg and the Sound of Sleat. Near to Kylerhea is an otter sanctuary; if you go in the evening you will be unlucky not to see one of these fascinating creatures from the hide.
