Visit Armadale

Home Return

Take Armadale road for 18 miles (25 km) to visit these exquisite and renowned gardens. The Macdonald clan centre and museum are based here. Some of the more mature trees are over two hundred years old and the views over the sound of Sleat to Knoydart and Mallaig are truly memorable. It is said that the lawn in front of the castle ruins is one of the finest in the north of Scotland. The castle Stables have been converted into a first class restaurant and gift shop.

Half a mile further down the road is the Armadale ferry terminal where there are regular sailings to Mallaig and the Small Isles during the summer season. The ferries are large and very well appointed.

Beyond Armadale is the lovely village of Ardvasar. The Ardvasar Hotel is an ideal stopping off point for a spot of lunch or supper.
